Eye-roll October 2015 E

This is a first draft and needs a good work-over....

Every so often I adopt a certain phrase or action to indicate how I might be feeling about an action or remark or opinion  made by another person.

And when I find the little green book I will be able to get down to writing the introduction for this particular post.

I'm doing this to fill in the time until 5.30 as I have forgotten to bring my USB set with me today.  What a dunce!!

Just when I had the very first post all ready to put up....

Eye-roll is something I use as either an indication of exasperation or unwillingness to do as I am asked.

This habit goes back a long way and surfaces from time to time.  Especially on days when I'm tired and I need to conserve my energy.  Of course it doesn't work well if you are walking directly in front of the person you wish to communicate with but it is useful if you want to make a silent statement without incurring the immediate wrath of the person whose opinion about a particular matter doesn't sit well with you. .

It is a habit I possibly adopted as a teenager when, for example, my mother might ask me to help her with the washing-up. The eye-roll response indicated an exasperation with having to stop what ever I was doing and take up my least favourite task.

My mother's response: "Don't you roll your eyes at me young lady."

Meaning: "I'm your mother and you will do what I say without further argument."

Or it maybe to do with an opinion or in the most recent case, where I substituted the action for the words, when a hoon drove by in a car with the loudest exhaust possibly known to mankind.  It works well in a situation whre youcan hardly her yourself think never mind speak.  And was immediately defeated as the person commenting on the loud exhast missed the eye-roll action and I converted the action to the words "Eye-roll."

Now I discover that in some circles it is considered a form of communication used only by low speed people where the action is re[placed by the words.

Low speed people.  What?  Who are they?
