Sitting in the trolley bay, once again waiting for transport, I leaf through the pages of a recent issue of Harpist's Bizzare, the fashion magazine.
The first few single page articles revolve around the A-List; my understanding of the A-List is minimal; it appears to be a list on which celebrities and other important people compete for inclusion.
The first page introduces me to Emily. A photograph of Emily, wearing a striking electric blue dress and an equally striking seductive pose, sits at the top of the page. The remainder of the page is devoted to a fashion display of clothes and accessories; whether these items are part of Emily's wardrobe or items Emily would very much like in her wardrobe, is not clear. If I was up to speed with the A-List I would no doubt understand the page set-up.
Described as a model and a risk taker there is little doubt that the fashions surrounding her photo would be ideal for a person such as Emily. A bright blue, full length dress;silver, jewel-encrusted high heels ( a steal at $3040); a small, silver Louis Vuitton bag (price tag of $4800) and the option of a small deep blue fluffy purse-style bag as an alternative ($5430) all this for a shade under $14000.
At this point I become all too aware that money, and lots of it, is an essential part of making the A-List.
Oh well, lets move on to the second page.
Nothing to see here. A supposedly equestrian-themed page which really stretches the imagination; apart from the Christian Dior hat which while it may not save my life if I fell off a horse, would certainly make me look stylish for a few brief minutes before fashion goeth before fall.
The following page keeps to the same theme and portrays the Wish List of a no doubt important player on the A-List scene - that of the Accidental Icon blogger. At last- some-one who is at least nearer my age group and who has the temerity (or should that be courage?) to leave her hair grey.
Well I never! Maybe I am a little closer than the far end of the Universe to the A-List.
One glance at the fashions on this Wish List page and I immediately revise that thought; apart from the Burberry jumper with the loopy embroidery and maybe the long sleeved white blouse I would not to be able to carry off anything else shown here.
But wait! There is an almost affordable shampoo, which can be ordered on line. have Of course I would rather walk into a store and buy it over the counter but I'm sure no self-respecting A-Lister would be seen dead doing anything as drearily mundane as shopping instore.....
The final A-List page is twenty four hours with Lauren Hutton, another A-Lister who could be described as a contemporary. We do have some things in common, although wealth is not one of them. I am happy to dress casually in jeans and a T-shirt and the jeans don't have tto be the
